This Privacy Policy is provided by the Anglican Church in North America (the “ACNA”) the data controller for the "To Be a Christian: An Anglican Catechism" mobile application ("Catechism App") and owner of the Catechism App. ACNA has engaged ReThinkMe LTD as a data processor to develop and operate the App on the ACNA's behalf in accordance with and subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy refers to the ANCA and ReThinkMe LTD jointly as "we," "our," or "us.”
We respect your privacy. This Privacy Policy applies to the Catechism App, and explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use the Catechism App. By using the Catechism App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of Personal Data and other data through the Catechism App. “Personal Data” is any information that would reveal specific information about you as an individual.
Personal Information: We collect your email address only if you choose to log in using "Sign in with Google" or "Sign in with Apple" to access the notes functionality. Signing in is NOT required to use the Catechism App.
User Notes: If you log in, we store any notes you create in the Catechism App on our servers so they can be synced across your devices.
Analytics Data: We collect standard usage analytics to improve the Catechism App experience.
2. How We Use Your Information
We will only use your Personal Data as the law permits, and in accordance with the purposes for which it was collected, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason and that reason is compatible with the original purpose.
We process your Personal Data on legal grounds including:
Consent: When you choose to log in and provide your email address, which is not required to access the Catechism App.
Legal Obligation: Comply with applicable laws and regulations.
Legitimate Interest: We use the collected Personal Data and other data to improve your Catechism App experience and provide you with access to relevant information. Specifically, we use your Personal Data for the following purposes:
To enable account creation and authentication
To provide Catechism App functionality, such as saving and syncing notes associated with your logged-in account
To analyze Catechism App performance, improve user experience, and notify you of updates
To ensure security by protecting user accounts and data.
To provide technical support when requested
To inform you of additional relevant resources, events and opportunities related to the ACNA, its Ministry Partners, spiritual formation and the Christian faith which Catechism App users may find valuable
To better understand how Catechism App users engage with the ACNA and how to improve offerings, including the Catechism App
Sharing Personal Data with the ACNA’s affiliated Ministry Partners, only for the purposes described in this policy, and subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy, to provide and improve an overall positive experience for Catechism App users within the ACNA network.
3. Data Storage & Security; Breach Notification
The security of your Personal Data is important to us. We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect your Personal Data, such as those outlined below, but no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee or warrant the absolute security of your Personal Data or other data.
Your email address and notes (if you choose to log in) are stored on secure servers.
We encrypt user data and implement standard security measures to protect your information.
Analytics data is stored indefinitely for performance tracking.
In the event of a data breach, we will make good faith effort to:
Notify relevant authorities in a timely manner or as required by law
Notify affected users without undue delay or as required by law
Provide relevant information about the breach and steps being taken to address it
4. Data Sharing and Third-Party Services
We only share your Personal Data as described in this Privacy Policy. We do not share or sell your data to third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. In situations where we use a third party to process your data, we require these third parties agree to provide the equivalent level of protection as required by law and provided by this Privacy Policy.
App Management: As described above, ACNA has engaged ReThinkMe LTD as a data processor to develop and operate the App on the ACNA's behalf in accordance with and subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
Ministry Partners: As described above, ACNA may share Personal Data with affiliated Ministry Partners which operate in close coordination with ACNA, only for the purposes described in this policy, and subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
Third Party Services: In addition, we integrate with third-party services and may share data with third-party service providers to enhance the Catechism App and to provide a positive user experience, for example:
Google & Apple Login: If you log in, authentication is handled securely by Google or Apple under their respective privacy policies. We also use the standard analytics tools provided by Apple and Google to understand Catechism App usage, which are subject to user consent per their respective policies
Crossway: We integrate with Crossway to provide access to the English Standard Version (ESV) Bible (no Personal Data collected or shared).
Analytics: We do not currently use additional analytics tools.
IT Services: We may periodically contract with additional IT service providers to support the Catechism App, subject to data processing agreements.
5. International Data Transfer
You are providing your Personal and other data to us in the United States. Currently, we do not transfer or process your data outside of the United States. If such transfer and processing become necessary, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain Personal Data as long as necessary for the purposes outlined in this policy.
As an App user, you have control over your data within the App. If you do not log in, we do not collect your data. If you do log in, you can choose to delete your account within the App, or request data deletion, including stored notes, at any time by visiting: www.rethinkme.com/deleteme.
We retain email addresses, notes, and analytics data indefinitely, until users self-delete their account or request deletion, to maintain Catechism App functionality and improve user experience.
We will retain and use your Personal Data as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
7. Your Rights & Choices
We respect your right to access and control your Personal Data. You have choices about the data we collect.
You can choose not to log in, in which case no personal information or notes will be collected.
You can choose to provide an email address only, and not make notes.
You have the following rights under applicable privacy laws:
Right of Access: Request access to your personal data we hold
Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate personal data
Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal obligations)
Right to Restrict Processing: Request limitation of how we process your data
Right to Data Portability: Request transfer of your data in a structured format
Right to Object: Object to processing based on legitimate interest
Right to Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior lawful processing)

8. Legal Compliance
We make good faith efforts to comply with GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA and other applicable privacy laws.
The Catechism App is not intended for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
California Shine the Light Law: California permits users who are California residents to obtain from us once a year, free of charge, a list of third parties to whom we have disclosed personal information (if any) for direct marketing purposes in the preceding calendar year. If you are a California resident and you wish to make such a request, please send an e-mail with “California Privacy Rights” in the subject line to info@rethinkme.com.

9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the Catechism App and on our website. Continued use of the Catechism App following an update indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
